By correctly separating solid residues in our house, placing glass containers, plastic and metal containers, paper and cardboard and organic scraps separately, we are contributing to the recycling of said materials as well as contributing to the improvement of the environment.
Also, we can go much further with our composting, thereby taking advantage of organic garbage, for example: kitchen waste (legumes, shells, eggshells, bread, dough, tea bags, coffee …) and garden scraps (leaves, grass, stems, flowers, branches, straw …).
Composting is a biological process, by which microorganisms convert the organic part of solid urban residues into material similar to soil that is called compost.
Mature compost can be used in your Minigarden. A mixture of 1/3 of compost, 1/3 of sand and 1/3 of soil is a rich fertilizer for young plants and houseplants.
Typically, we place our garbage sack in front of the house or in the garbage container nearby and the garbage men come to pick it up. The garbage is then taken on its way to be buried or incinerated. The organic material present in garbage, which is close to 40%, is wasted instead of being re-introduced into the soil where it is very beneficial to the health of the plants that we eat from. The collection, transport and depositing of garbage is very expensive, at close to 22€ per ton, aside from being “expensive” for the environment because we are polluting.
